Lever Pad

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is essential to match the dimensions of the PZ on both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often known as the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect to match the right handles.

After you have identified the correct size of PZ, you will need to ensure that the lever and push pads are designed to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles that you need for your door. They are typically square or round with an internal lever and an external push pad.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are commonly found on uPVC doors, but they can also be found on other types of door. The cylinder lock is operated by a key which unlocks the cylinder's case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned with the pins in the lock, allowing them to rotate the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro cylinders are available with up to six pins. Internal and external doors require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is essential. It depends on the type of use your doors and handles will receive. For instance, exterior doors must be secured with a more secure cylinder whilst internal doors can be secured with a standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders come with additional features that can improve security even more, like anti-drill or anti-bump features.

A euro cylinder needs to be measured accurately to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, should there be one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be susceptible to attacks like snapping locks, so it is important that it's not too long.

The design of the latest cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction. This can help to deflect an attack and protect your door.

There are cylinders made to resist snapping. This is a more frequent type of attack on cylinders, which is where the break line of the lock is attacked using a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to be opened. This is a lot faster and more straightforward than opening the door with multipoint locks. It also leaves little evidence of a burglary, which can impede an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits within the base of your door handle backplate providing a sprung solution and returning your multipoint lock handles to their rest position after using. There was a time when these types of handle didn't have a spring built into them and without this they tend to droop or  drop when the locking mechanism is removed. Adding this simple component is among the best methods to correct this issue and is an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in the open or closed position, since they aren't always easy to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with sprung multipoint locks. They will not fit handles that aren't sprung, and you will have to cut a hole in your backplate in order for them to fit.
